From California to Maine, educators and training providers are utilizing competency models in new and innovative ways. As a result, competencies have been described as the new currency for education, training, and professional development. Since April, the U.S Department of Labor Competency Model Peer Learning Group has brought together participants from different industries, different regions, and different perspectives in the workforce system with a common goal of exploring the uses of competency models. Each bi-monthly call focused on a unique interest area identified by participants. Topics covered included:
- Industry Engagement;
- Career Pathways;
- Curriculum Development; and
- Apprenticeship Development.
Throughout the four calls, participants shared resources, heard about real-life examples, and engaged in robust discussions. As a result, participants learned about competency model programs happening across the country and were able to inform their own initiatives.
