This webinar will examine how to integrate industry credentials within registered and unregistered apprenticeship programs and emphasize the importance of building connections across sponsor/employer organizations to ensure curriculum and training alignment. The webinar will highlight the barriers to integrating these credentials in apprenticeship programs and provide methods to overcome them for overall program success.

Participants will be equipped with industry-specific insights and actionable strategies for bolstering apprenticeship programs with widely accredited credentials and fostering enduring connections that contribute to apprenticeship initiatives' ongoing success and stability.

Webinar Objectives:

  1. Provide an overview of industry-recognized credentials and their importance to apprenticeship, including improving program and apprentice success.
  2. Describe the differences between industry-recognized credentials, Registered Apprenticeship program credentials of completion, and employer certifications.
  3. Understand the differences between credential attainment in registered and unregistered apprenticeship programs.
  4. Highlight nationally recognized third-party credentialing organizations (National Institute for Metalworking Skills, COMPTIA, National Association for Healthcare Quality) and their prevalence within selected industries (advanced manufacturing, Information Technology, health care) and how to integrate their credentials within the apprenticeship curriculum both through on-the-job training and related technical instruction.
  5. Analyze the challenges associated with integrating industry credentials within an apprenticeship program (costs, time, etc.) and how to ensure apprentices obtain them.
  6. Discuss programs that utilize multiple certifying organizations to train apprentices, such as America Makes' additive manufacturing program.
  7. Identify strategies to empower Apprenticeships: Closing the Skills Gap Grantees to engage in organization-wide credential planning and attainment.
  8. Review case studies showcasing the successful attainment of industry-recognized credentials in their apprenticeship programs and examine instances of program challenges arising from the lack of organizational support.
