Local Employment Dynamics: Using Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics Data
About
Learn about the U.S. Census Bureau's Local Employment Dynamics (LED) program, and its Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) data, which you can access through the interactive OnTheMap tool.
Local Employment Dynamics Partnership
The Local Employment Dynamics (LED) Partnership's Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD) data is the cornerstone of a program designed to develop new information about local labor market business, and economic conditions. The LEHD data can be displayed in a user-friendly mapping module, so that geographic locations are easily viewed.
LEHD makes available several data products that may be used to research and characterize workforce dynamics for specific groups. These data products include online applications, public-use data, and restricted-use microdata.
Quarterly Workforce Indicators
The Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) are a set of economic indicators, including employment, job creation, earnings, and other measures of employment flows.
The QWI are reported based on detailed firm characteristics (geography, industry, age, size) and worker demographics information (sex, age, education, race, ethnicity), and are available tabulated to national*, state, metropolitan/micropolitan areas, county, and Workforce Investment Board (WIB) areas.
The Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) and LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) data are available online for public use. Confidential microdata are available to qualified researchers with approved projects through restricted access use in Census Research Data Centers.
Job-to-Job Flows
A presentation on Putting America to Work: The Essential Role of Federal Labor Market Statistics at the LMI Innovations Workshop in Washington, D.C., on August 2010 was made by Andrew Reamer under Ron Jarmin, Chief Economist at the Center for Economic Studies, U.S. Census Bureau.
Mr. Reamer developed this presentation to explain job-to-job flow data innovations made to Local Employer Household Dynamics (LEHD) in 2010.
